The tall ship Atyla is visiting The Brixham Pirates Festival 2023
All information about the dates and activities in the city
IMPORTANT UPDATE: OUR ATTENDANCE HAS BEEN CANCELLED
With immense sadness, due to an unusual change in our season planning, and a lack of funds to bring Atyla to Brixham all the way from northern Spain, we had to abandon our plans to come to the Brixham Pirates Festival 2023. We’re very sorry about this.
Important: The festival WILL still happen. Check this FB page to find out more.
Before the end of January, the people that booked any of our activities in Brixham will be informed via email and will be given a refund of what they paid.
We are already in conversations with the organizers about bringing Atyla to Brixham in 2024, and we hope to see you there.
As part of its 2023 sailing season, the famous historic ship Atyla will participate in the Brixham Pirates Festival. This is your opportunity to see this astonishing sailing ship closer than ever.
With its two masts, black sails and the #ATYLAship sign in the wheelhouse, the ship will attract the attention of thousands of people in the city. And it says “WELCOME” on the hull but, is it possible to visit it? Is it possible to come aboard and experience its traditional wooden architecture? We have good news for you: YES!

How is the day trip?
Our crew will welcome you on board and explain the basics of the trip, then we’ll leave the mooring and start sailing. During the trip we’ll try to put up some sails, and you can help with that. There’ll be plenty of cool moments for a picture with the coastal background, with the crew, and in different parts of the ship (remember to tag @atyla_ship if you publish them).
Some relevant details:
- The paella will be ready shortly after the start of the trip.
- Sadly we can’t make vegetarian paella, but if you tell us on your reservation, we’ll have a vegetarian option ready for you.
- You’ll be able to use the ship’s toilet if you need it.
- Smoking is allowed on deck. Always try not to disturb anyone and never throw the cigarette butt overboard.
- To avoid pollution, drinks come in a reusable Atyla glass that you’ll get for a 2€ deposit. You can return it, or keep it as a souvenir.

You have never heard about the Brixham Pirates Festival?
Oh, you’re in for a treat!

The Brixham Pirates Festival, also know and just “Brixham Pirates”, “Brixham Pirate Days”, or “The pirate festival of Brixham”, is a yearly event that gathers thousands of people to celebrate dressed as pirates, or who just want to enjoy the good vibes.
Organised by the local community and a bunch of volunteers from the area, the event remains independent and authentic, and the locals pour themselves into offering the most enjoyable experience.
Open to families and people of all ages, open to groups and people coming alone. Brixham will welcome you with open arms.
What are the dates of the Brixham Pirates Festival 2023?
In 2023, the Brixham Pirates Festival starts on the 29 of April 2023. The end date of the festival is the 1st of May 2023.
The festival happens every year on the first Bank Holiday weekend in May, so if you cannot make it this year to visit the festival and all its attractions, including the ship Atyla, you can already calculate the provisional dates of future editions:
In 2024, the Pirate Days will be from the 4th to the 6th of May. And in 2025 it will be from the 3rd to the 5th of May.
Of course, the future dates are still provisional. Come back later for official dates.
Until then, we’ll enjoy the 2023 edition of the Pirates Brixham! See you there!
